We, the garment workers, demand our rights according to the Labour Law. The organizers from the Confederation of Trade Unions in Myanmar (CTUM) assisted us. With their help, we established a Labour Union to reconcile the labour issues within the workplace.
The owners didn’t follow the rules and regulations of ILO. They didn’t acknowledge ‘Freedom of Association’ and made unfair dismissal. So, the members of the Industrial Workers Federation of Myanmar (IWFM) call on the factory to follow the existing Labour Laws and also reemploy the leaders. We did not only demonstrate in front of the factory, we also asked the Government to make effective reconciliation.
Two national labour unions made a demonstration at Maha Bandula Park, Yangon, showing they are unable to accept the revised ‘Settlement of Labour Dispute Law’ and the ‘Labor Organization Law’, both are currently in drafted stage.
